Can I paint a central air conditioning outdoor compressor unit?

msabramo asked:

It’s a Carrier central AC unit and the compressor in the backyard looks like hell. The paint is peeling off in huge chunks and there’s lot of rust. It looks pretty awful.

I’m wondering if I can make it look newer with a fresh coat of paint? If I were to do that, what kind of paint would I use? Something that can withstand high temperatures? And how to apply? Spray?

Is this a DIY job?

I’ prep it for an oil based paint-light color and be sure not to get any on the condenser coils. Brushing the paint on a ruffed-up surface guarantee’s the best adhesion and the longest life. racer123

Hand or electric wire brush.. Wash off with warm water and a little detergent.. let dry.. Apply roof paint.. No worries bud.. Have a good day. houseofjoseph2000

Just don’t get any paint on the fin coil or cover over the name plate sticker with the machine specs on it. vxaisw
