if the spray gun is consuming 17 CFM.. & your using it flat out then the compressor needs to pump 17 CFM to keep the resevoir tank full…
but usually your only using the gun for 50% or less of the time & not for really long periods.. so the compressor only needs to push 7 CFM.. & the size of the tank is dependant on how close to empty you get when you use it.. bigger tank will hold pressure longer.. but takes more time to get full… easygoing157
